Reflex UK & Australia are Independently Certified Carbon Neutral

06.04.2024

When we say we are serious about sustainability, we mean it…….

It’s all too easy to jump on the sustainability bandwagon, but when we say we are serious about sustainability, you can rest assured that that we really mean it and have the credentials to prove it.

At Reflex we work incredibly hard to have a positive impact on the environment and protect our planet’s precious resources. For several years, we have:

  • Diligently monitored our carbon emissions within the organisation to calculate our Scope 1 & 2 emissions.
  • Implemented a comprehensive reduction strategy to reduce emissions.
  • Ensured our electricity is from renewable sources backed by a Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO).
  • Offset any remaining emissions through tree planting schemes and the purchase of carbon offsets via Carbon Neutral Britain’s Climate Fund Portfolio of offsetting projects around the world whichare certified via Verra – Verified Carbon Standard (VCS, the Gold Standard), Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), or the United Nations – Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes.

In the last 12 months we have offset a total of 1532 tonnes of Co2e emissions!

Having been carbon neutral for a number of years, we are now delighted that our UK and Australian sites have been officially certified by an independent third party – Carbon Neutral Britain (link to website https://carbonneutralbritain.org/) – as a cast iron guarantee that all our hard work is officially and independently recognised.

Through Carbon Neutral Britain, our carbon offset purchases have contributed towards several global sustainability projects. These projects include:

  • Elazig Solar Farm in Turkey, one of the first “high efficiency” solar farms within the region, providing economically viable renewable energy solutions in a country heavily reliant on fossil fuel combustion.
  • Wind power in the Indian state of Karnataka which produces renewable electric power from wind electric generators in a region where fossil fuels would have been otherwise burnt for energy.
  • A project providing solar lighting to families in Zambia, who lack access to electricity in the home.

It doesn’t stop there….

We are continuing our mission “to be the world’s most sustainable packaging company” by striving to go even further.

Our use of renewable energy from solar panels and wind turbines is already taking us beyond carbon neutral, but it doesn’t stop there….

We are working hard to:

  • Compile our first ESG Report which will be published annually.
  • Work towards science-based reduction targets.
  • Calculate our scope 3 emissions and work with our suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint still further.

Did You Know?

  • All of our electricity comes from renewable energy which equates to the saving of over 4,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
  • We have installed over 1,500 solar panels and wind turbines across 5 sites which have collectively reduced our carbon footprint by over 100 tons per annum.
  • Our manufacturing sites all have LED lighting installed, which, on average, uses 75% less energy than conventional lighting.
  • Our car fleet is predominantly hybrid or fully electric with car charging points installed at many sites.
  • As part of our Zero to Landfill commitment, 4,000 tonnes of waste is diverted from landfill annually across the Reflex Group and is used as a source of power.
  • We have planted over 50,000 trees as part of our carbon offsetting initiative.

By 2030, Reflex will have wiped the slate clean.

Over the next few years, we’ll be capturing the entire volume of carbon emitted from the day the company was founded in 2002.
