The events of 2020 have thrown a proverbial ‘spanner’ in the works for pretty much everyone, but as time goes on, businesses are becoming experts at finding innovative ways to adapt and pivot to ensure the show goes on in one format or another.
A great example of this is the way the awards industry has adapted during this whirlwind of a year. The majority of which have gone ahead, with virtual ceremonies, pre-recorded acceptance speeches and people streaming the shows directly to their laptops or PC’s.
Let’s cast our minds back to March when the prestigious European Flexographic Industry Association (EFIA) Awards were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Little did we know that six months later on 17th September, the awards would be streamed online and everyone would tune in from their homes- a bit of a different scenario from the planned gala ceremony at National Railway Museum, York.
Nevertheless, we proudly came away with a GOLD, two SILVER and a BRONZE across the ‘Flexo Print on Paper- Narrow Self Adhesive’ and ‘Flexo Print on Film- Surface Print Narrow’ categories. These awards were entries from both Reflex Labels Mansfield and Reflex Labels Boston, and we couldn’t be more proud! The EFIA Awards is a highlight in the flexo printed packaging calendar every year to honour the success in quality and innovation.
Last month, the Drinks Business Awards were announced online, in a similar format. Ridgeview Wine Estates entered their brand new Ridgeview Oak Reserve into the ‘English Sparking Wine Label Design & Packaging Award’ category and it won! A great achievement for Reflex Label Plus Keighley for this stunning printed wood label. Ridgeview officially launched this wine last month, read about it here.
And finally, the UK Packaging Awards are on the horizon. Much like the other events, they will be streamed online next week. Reflex Label Plus Keighley is proudly shortlisted into the ‘Label of the Year’ category for the Ridgeview Oak Reserve. The question is… will we make it a hat trick and win an awards(s) at three different events?
It’s fair to say, it’s not quite been the same as being at the physical awards ceremonies (with a glass of fizz in celebration), but we really respect the adaptation of the event organisers to ensure the hard work of our industry still has the opportunity for recognition.
We’re looking forward to seeing what 2021 has in store for our award winning print!
