Over the summer, the Reflex Group Bursary Scheme returned for 2024 and once again encouraged each of our UK manufacturing sites to donate to a local cause and make a positive impact in their local community. This year, 15 initiatives were chosen to receive a contribution, and we’re now delighted to share the first updates in our round-up series, highlighting the changes our employees’ selected causes have made to their communities since receiving their donation.
In this blog we’ll cover the following valuable schemes and discover the difference they’re making with Reflex’s help. Read on to find out more!
- Holly Hill Primary School – Gardening Club
- We Are One (Outreach North East)
- Boston Grammar School – GreenPower Racing Team
- Alderman Knight School – Outdoor Learning Space
Holly Hill Primary School – Gardening Club | Donated by Reflex Labels Mansfield
Holly Hill Primary School is situated between Mansfield and Nottingham and is the local school for one of our employee’s children.
The school has been working hard on setting up a gardening club for the children to look after, and the Reflex bursary has helped them to fund the space, equipment, seeds and much more. It has also helped with the purchase of some outdoor equipment and toys for the children. Since receiving the donation, the garden has been transformed from a patch of grass into raised beds, low level and wheelchair friendly, and the children have grown vegetables including runner beans, rhubarb and pumpkins in the greenhouse.

We Are One (Outreach North East) | Donated by Reflex Labels Grimsby
We are One (Outreach North East) is an independent charity operating in Grimsby and surrounding areas in North East Lincolnshire – one of the most deprived areas in the country. Their mission is to provide support for people facing food poverty including the homeless, the elderly and families in financial distress. The Reflex bursary was spent on provisions for food banks, warm spaces and laundry for those most in need.

Boston Grammar School – GreenPower Racing Team | Donated by Reflex Labels & Reflex Systems Boston
The GreenPower Racing Team is a new programme run by Boston Grammar School’s design technology department. They have a team of passionate students from years 7-11, an electric car and some basic equipment.
The Reflex bursary went towards the purchase of extra equipment and resources needed to improve the electric car as well as uniforms for the team. These extra resources will help the team’s success on the track and enable them to embed STEM subject skills throughout. The funds will also enable them to access as many events as possible.

Alderman Knight School – Outdoor Learning Space | Donated by Reflex Flexible Packaging Worcester
Alderman Knight School is SEND facility servicing a cohort of children ages 7-19 years from Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, with diagnoses that include Autistic Spectrum Disorders. In recent years, the school has expanded its outdoor learning with a Forest School space offered to primary and year 7 age children, in which they plant and grow their own vegetables to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
The Reflex bursary has helped to facilitate an outdoor classroom, the creation of planters and the cost of necessary tools, which is all incredibly important in educating the students on their environment and helping them to become self-sufficient.
