World Environment Day 2026: The Signals We Send Back

06.05.2026

World Environment Day 2026 shines a spotlight on climate change, on the urgent signals the Earth is sending and the signals we choose to send back.

Across the globe, communities are witnessing rising temperatures, extreme weather events, changing ecosystems and increasing pressure on natural resources. The message from the planet is impossible to ignore. The question is no longer whether change is coming, but how we respond to it, and how quickly.

This year’s campaign from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is a call for collective action. It asks businesses, industries and individuals to move further, think differently and help steer a world already in motion.

At Reflex, sustainability is not a trend or a one-day conversation. It is embedded into the way we operate, innovate and grow.

Turning Commitment into Action

Reflex’s mission is clear: to become the world’s most sustainable packaging company. As part of that commitment, by 2030 we aim to capture the entire volume of carbon emitted since Reflex was founded in 2002.

But sustainability goes beyond offsetting emissions. Real progress comes from reducing environmental impact at the source.

Across the Reflex Group, initiatives are already making a measurable difference:

  • Solar panels and wall-mounted wind turbines are being installed across sites to increase renewable energy generation.
  • 100% of energy used across sites comes from renewable, non-carbon sources.
  • LED lighting has been installed throughout facilities to reduce energy consumption.
  • Investments in state-of-the-art machinery are helping reduce both material waste and energy use.
  • A growing fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles supports lower-emission transport.
  • Multiple sites have achieved zero-to-landfill status.
  • Recycling centres help collect and process liner waste ready for recycling.
  • Real-time energy tracking allows sites to monitor and improve efficiency continuously.
  • Reflex also supports UK woodland creation and conservation initiatives, including projects that support wild bee populations.

These actions reflect an understanding that sustainability is not one single solution. It is a series of decisions, investments and innovations that work together to create long-term change.

Innovation with Purpose

The packaging industry plays a critical role in reducing waste and supporting more responsible consumption. Reflex continues to invest in sustainable materials and product innovation, including linerless labels, stereo labels™ and labels made from 100% post-consumer waste materials.

Tackling Plastic Pollution Together

Plastic pollution remains one of the most visible environmental challenges facing the world today. Addressing it requires collaboration across manufacturers, businesses, governments and consumers alike.

At Reflex, sustainability is embedded into the development of packaging solutions that support a more circular economy and reduce unnecessary waste.

Much of our flexible packaging is already recyclable or can be designed to be recycled more effectively.

We offer materials containing recycled content and continue to expand our range of more sustainable packaging constructions.

We actively support greater investment in UK recycling infrastructure, wider kerbside recycling schemes and increased public awareness around packaging waste streams and responsible disposal through the OPRL scheme.

Reducing plastic pollution is not about a single action, it is about improving systems, encouraging innovation and making sustainable choices more accessible at every stage of the packaging lifecycle.

Innovation matters because every product, process and purchasing decision sends a signal about the future we want to create.

The Responsibility We Share

World Environment Day reminds us that climate action cannot wait for someone else to act first. Governments, industries, businesses and consumers all have a role to play.

The signals we send back to the planet today, through investment, innovation, accountability and collaboration will shape the world future generations inherit tomorrow.

At Reflex, the journey toward sustainability continues every day. Because meaningful environmental progress is not achieved through promises alone, but through measurable action and long-term commitment.

This World Environment Day 2026, let’s all consider the signals we are sending back.
