When Greencore approached us to supply labels for a project transforming surplus food into nutritious meals for those in need, the answer was simple.
Inspired by His Majesty King Charles III, the Coronation Food Project is a ground-breaking response to one of today’s most urgent challenges – how to reduce food waste while tackling food poverty.
Launched in November 2023 by The King and Queen, the initiative brought together senior leaders from across the UK food industry to sign a historic pledge: to reduce waste across the supply chain and significantly increase the redistribution of surplus food.
To turn this ambition into action, the industry created Alliance Food Sourcing, a collaborative initiative that has already enabled the rescue of over 11 million additional meals from surplus food, excess production capacity and industry donations.
Of these, an incredible 1 million meals have been contributed by Greencore.
We were proud to support this effort by printing and supplying labels, free of charge, from our Ossett site in Wakefield to Greencore’s Warrington facility, helping ensure these meals could be safely and efficiently distributed to those in need.
A particularly special moment came on 16th March, when His Majesty visited the Greencore site to see first-hand the innovative work being done to tackle food waste. During the visit, the King observed the preparation of meals destined for community groups, including those carrying Reflex labels on the production line.
We’re incredibly proud to have played a small part in such a powerful initiative; one that demonstrates the impact of collaboration, innovation and shared purpose.
Projects like this show what’s possible when industry comes together to address critical challenges – rebalancing the system so that good food reaches those who need it most.
